Download the free Acrobat Reader Note: The APA Publication Manual, 7th Edition specifies different formatting conventions for student and professional papers (i.e., papers written for credit in a course and papers intended for scholarly publication). These differences mostly extend to the title page and running head. PDFs can be referenced and cited similarly to printed articles and books. This means that the reference entry will include the author, publication date, title, publisher name, and a source URL or DOI. With PDF files it is also helpful to add a bracketed note signifying the nature of the material, e.g., [PDF] directly following the title. Structure: General Guidelines for APA References . Spacing • Start the references list on a new page at the end of your paper with the heading . References. centered at the top of the page in bold font. • The reference list should be double-spaced throughout. • Begin . each entry. flush with the left margin and indent subsequent line(s) ½ inch Referencing a PDF with four or more authors If your source has four or more authors, you'll use the first author's surname followed by et al. in your in-text citation. Your reference list can also use et al. or, if your institution requires it, a listing of each author in the full reference. In-text citation structure: The purpose of the reference list is to provide enough detail so your readers can locate your sources on their own. The format for listing your PDF files is, "author's last name, author's first and middle initials. (publication year). Title of PDF. Title of Periodical [in italics], issue number, pp-pp [pages]. Digital Object Identifier or URL." How do you cite a PDF in APA 7? In an APA citation, cite a PDF the same way you would cite a webpage, including the URL leading to the PDF. In a Chicago-style citation, after the title, add the same description without brackets (separated by a period). How do you reference a PDF with no author or date? Use title in place of author. THE REFERENCE LIST APA style suggests using a reference list for references cited in the text of a paper rather than a bibliography. A reference list includes only those references which were actually cited in the text of one's paper. There must be total agreement between the two. (See an example of a reference list on the last page). Where they are two authors, in-text citation, you write the last name of both authors, then join both names using the ampersand (&) instead of using the conjunction, 'and,' followed by the year when the book was published. For example: 'Gates & Tracy, 2019.'. In the example above, you can add up to five names. expected to reference all the sources of information and ideas included in your writing. This handout provides guidelines for using the APA 7th edition referencing system. There are two components to an APA reference: 1) an in-text reference in the body of your assignment: Bland and Osterwalder (2019) explore a range of themes and ideas In-text reference: (Gelspan, 2007) These are the MOST COMMON examples cited. For a complete list of examples please consult Publication manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th ed. (REF BF 76.7 .P83 2010).
